New Developments – Climbing?

SO! Miss Cosetta Lily has been trying to climb. Yes, I said climb! I have heard her for a couple weekends doing something, but I could never catch her. Then, the other day, I saw her trying to climb UP the cord that runs from her filter out of the tank.

I was absolutely weirded out, let me tell you! I asked the internet (mistake) and all I got was; she doesn’t like her tank, the water isn’t clean, the temp isn’t right, blah blah blah, … etc.

I then embarked on a question to Test-All-The-Things. I checked the water, a freaking lot, perfectly fine. I checked the temperatures in every part of her tank, perfectly fine. I moved the tank furniture around in case she was bored, didn’t make a difference. I was stumped.

An epiphany hit me like lightning: Maybe she is finally ready/confident enough to get out of the water and bask! I put her platform back in, moved it up and down a bit to find the right level, and voila! That is exactly what she wanted!

I am currently moving her basking spot back and forth to see where she wants it and how warm she wants the spot to be.

I thought, in the beginning, that Mud Turtles don’t like to bask. I think now that it is more that when they are young/small, they don’t like to come out of the water. She is full grown now (I have plans to weight and measure her when I have to move at the end of the month), so I guess she is feeling confident and wants to bask!

UPDATE: Picture cause it’s cute 🙂
